They say we should respect them

But why on earth should we? Is there any good reason to respect someone who is prepared to force you to shut up, or punish you for sharing words or pictures they don't like? Pure fThey demand respect for their religion - well they've got it. Isn't that enough?

I've heard many discussions since the mohammed drawings and read many articles about the subject. The so called moderate muslims say that they are against violent acts, but still they demand an apology. Apology for what!? In Norway the same moderate muslims wants a new and updatet blasphemy law - can you believe that? We've fought the law in so many years, after a trial in the 1930's it finally was buried as a sleeping paragraph. But now they demand that we reinstate the religious rule!? Do they want me to go to prison if I draw Mohammed as Donald Duck? Are writers to be sent  back to prison for their sinful books again?

The most tragic about this situation is that it isn't just old men with long beard and a wierd view on womens rights we are dealing with. No, the pakistan student organisation in Norway is on the front line here. Young educated people, third generation norwegians, women and men, attack our freedom of expression. They feel hurt..........

Now, I must say that it is nice they don't try to kill us for speeking freely. But that does not mean I find it ok that they use democratic ways to reinstate rules against blasphemy to make us shut up. In a democracy the majority rules. But if the majority wants something, it does not mean it therefore is right. The history is full of examples of the oposite.

Dear muslims, if you feel hurt - live with it. Respect has to go both ways to work. Try to study history, secularism, old islam. You'll find that your ways might not be what your prophet really wanted. The ban of pictures of the prophet is being said to be connected to his own wish. But it was because he didn't want tanyone to worship him after his death. Killing people who makes pictures of him sounds a bit strange in that context - you should be fighting the people who worship him then. But again you sholdn't, beacuse they also have the right to worship whatever. But as a teologic argument it should work out fine.

Sadly enough, peoples religious faith is not based on knowing anything. It is based on what someone has told them they should think. Do I mean people who seek power? I guess I do. Am I being blasphemic now? According to someone on this planet, definitly! Is the cover of the demo tape pure fucking armageddon blasphemic? Probably according to a lot of christians, but should I go to jail for it? Not in my opinion, obviously, but according to some maybe. Should it be illigal to sell? Well actually it is, since it only exsist in bootleg version in my knowledge. But hell, I don't care. On the contrary - the guy who made the effort must be an incredible fan hehe but anyway - all though an illigal copy, it is a legal expression. At least in Norway, for the time being. I do hope the islamists suffer the same defeat as the christians in our part of the world.

It is nice to have a blog to talk to *sigh*

I fully agree with you, however as long as organized religion exists and has as many followers as Islam and Christianity have, you will have problems like this. It's pretty sad that such ignorance widely exists in this day and age.

Religion altogether has caused the most artocious events in human history. I am totally against anything to do with religion.

Keep in mind that I separate philosophy from religion/theology. Spiriuality and transcendence have nothing to do with gods or deities.

Hey Manheim, hows it going?

Hi Mike, things are going great :-)

I know a few "Mikes" and I guess you're one of them. Send me an e-mail, it's been a while since I talked to any of you.

I also separate philosophy and religion. It's the dogmatic nature of religion who is disturbing. I just heard a saying that it takes religion to make a good man to do evil. It gives reason to think so.

I always found it strange how everyone is always forcing their religion, religious laws et al on everyone.
90% of Religions encourage you to practice your religion on your own away from people.

It's dumb, they're too obsessed in thinking they're right and everyone else is wrong somehow making it their "Duty" to help "Bring them into the light" or some such bull to actually read their own scripture.

Or perhaps that's just here in the UK.
Maybe I'm being hypocritical being Pagan (Though not preaching to everyone, people who do that come across as assholes.)

Hi Manson,

i'm afraid that the religous' behaviour isn't limited to UK. It's a global phenomena.
